ABOUT THE ARTIST

B. Burkett is an artist who creates jewelry. Yet another door in her art adventure was opened in 2006 when her daughter, Sherry, gave her some jewelry making tools for Christmas. This adventure has lead her to create wearable works of art. She applies the same principle used in creating art on paper and canvas to creating jewelry with beads, gemstones, sterling silver and 14K rolled gold (14K gold filled).

In the short time since she began creating jewelry, B. Burkett jewelry is becoming popular in the mid Gulf Coast area of Texas. People who don't live in this area have ask to see it, so www.bburkett.com web site was created. She has already been ask to teach classes but has decided to concentrate on what she loves best, creating wearable works of art.

Burkett remembers always admiring the "magic" that artists create. The first door of her art adventure began when her children started to school she began art classes. She flourished! After only 5 years she was asked to teach classes for adults and children.

Her paintings can be described as spontaneous, she balances realism with creativity. The mood of the painting she wishes to create determines whether she will use watercolor, oil, ink or pencil. 12-27-09 B.Burkett Firsts - They happened during the Christmas season. My first BBurkett.com order from Canada. It was purchased by two sisters as a gift for their mother. It was a pendant with the birthstones of her seven grandchildren. Read about her response in the testimonials in the next column.

The other was a custom order for pet jewelry! A special little chihuahua received some B. Burkett jewelry for Christmas! I designed a pink Swarovski pendant for her to wear on her collar.

10-16-09 Exploring Filigree - I began exploring filigree when I had requests for custom made chandelier earrings. I was so excited about the process that I made several more pairs featuring Swarovski crystal.

The word filigree comes from the Latin words for thread and grain. It is made from thin metal threads (wire), when they are twisted together they form a grain. These threads are used to make openwork designs, often flowers, on jewelry and other utilitarian objects like candle sticks, jewelry boxes and dresser sets. From 1700 BC filigree has survived from the Minoan culture on the island of Crete.

One of my favorite art forms is drawing, I have discovered that I love to design filigree jewelry. It is much like drawing, only with wire. Watch for new additions of filigree jewelry

9-20-09 I've been told that I should have a blog, a spot on Face Book, Twitter and a whole host of other sites. If I do that, when will I have time to MAKE JEWELRY, which is my passion? Next to that I love showing the works of art that I've created. In my pre-jewelry days when I was painting a lot, it was a thill to see my paintings all dressed up in frames at an art exhibit. This internet site is a way for me to have an artisian jewelry exhibit. I hope you enjoy viewing these wearable works of art.

Burkett jewelry, paintings and greeting cards at Paper Moon in Port Lavaca, Texas. It's located at 108 N. Virginia Suite. 1. They are open 10:00 a.m. till 6:00 p.m. Tuesday thru Saturday. The propietors, Kyle and Paula Boyd-Robertson, have antiques, gifts, collectibles and paintings. They specialize in old post cards.

Port Lavaca is an interesting town that has several antique and gift shops. We welcome you to come and visit.
